The first teaser trailer for “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” surfaced online earlier this week. This time, director Michael Bay is taking the action off-planet and into space.
Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon will be in theaters July 01, 2011 in 3D. Directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg. Starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro and Ramón Rodríguez, with Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime, and Hugo Weaving as the voice of Megatron.

Marvel and Paramount have released the first official trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s superhero movie which opens in May 2011 and alongside Natalie Portman will be Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Kat Dennings as Darcy and Rene Russo as Frigga.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is again directed by British filmmaker David Yates, of Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince previously. The script was also written again by Steve Kloves, of Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, and also Half-Blood Prince, but not Order of the Phoenix. This is based on J.K. Rowling’s very popular series of books which have already concluded. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I will arrive in theaters on November 19th later this year!

The Town was the number one movie of the weekend with an intake of $23.8 million at the US box office. With a production budget of just $37 million, “The Town” is one of Warner Brothers’ smallest releases of the year . “The Town” is a 2010 action thriller film directed by Ben Afflick that is based on Chuck Hugan’s novel Prince of thieves.

For Ben Affleck, who directed and stars, “The Town” is a major success following the lackluster box office of his first directorial performance, “Gone Baby Gone.”

The Town Synopsis: Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang’s latest job, when they briefly took a hostage–bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Though they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name… and where she lives. But she lets her guard down when she meets an unassuming and rather charming man named Doug….not realizing that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorized her. The instant attraction between them gradually turns into a passionate romance that threatens to take them both down a dangerous, and potentially deadly, path.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is an upcoming 3D science fiction horror film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson.  Resident Evil: Afterlife is the fourth installment of the hugely successful ResEvil movie franchise. This movie is based on the wildly popular video game series Resident Evil. In the search for the movie Alice and rescue of survivors who remained in Los Angeles of the T-virus outbreak, the uniting against Albert Wesker, head of the Umbrella Corporation. Alice also comes face to face with his enemy, Albert Wesker, for the first time in the series face. When you enter the ruins of Los Angeles, she falls on a roof, surrounded by zombies.  Then he joined a group of survivors hiding in Los Angeles since the beginning of the T-Virus, were helping to free another group of people in prison, the brother of light, Chris Redfield.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D can be watched both in conventional, 3D and IMAX-3D theaters worldwide beginning September 10, 2010. The full cast includes: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Spencer Locke, Wentworth Miller, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Kim Coates, Norman Yeung and Kasey Barnfield.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Synopsis: In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead leads them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

BestFlick.com now dishes out the lowdown on The Time Traveler’s Wife, an August offering by New Line Cinema starring Eric Bana (Star Trek, Troy) and Rachel McAdams (State of Play, The Notebook). This is a film adaptation from the book of the same title written by Audrey Niffenegger and directed by German filmmaker Robert Schwentke, who last worked on the big screen in Jodie Foster’s airborne thriller Flight Plan (circa 2005).

If you’ve read the book, you probably will agree that the premise of the story – albeit conducive to metaphysical and intellectual discussions – is downright ridiculous. Henry DeTamble (Bana) is a Chicago librarian that is afflicted with a genetic abnormality, one that causes him to “time travel”. Lest you start thinking that this is way awesome, there are actually a couple of problems to this – first is that he doesn’t know to when and where he will be travelling (he can’t control it, obviously). Second, he can’t carry his clothes with him when he travels, so yes, it is quite a bummer to be travelling through time, dropping in on places and times unknown completely naked.

The ever-beautiful Rachel McAdams plays Clare Abshire who actually meets Henry as a child, in a meadow behind their home. The child Clare actually is quite taken by this time traveler, who was hiding in some shrubbery, in desperate need of clothing. She falls in love with Henry, who promptly disappears (read: disintegrates) in front of her. Not to worry, the handsome naked guy says to the young child that there will be a lot more times they will meet. And that they do.

Although the naked time-jumping does bring about the expected chuckles from the crowd, it is the seamless interweaving of timelines that actually allows them to follow the story coherently. The next time we meet Clare, she bumps into Henry in a library and from there they begin their joint journey into love and relationships.

Or so they tried. One of the more poignant ideas of the book and the movie, whether they allude to real men who leave, is that you cannot propose to build a relationship with someone who just isn’t there. And so it really is the troubles, the little joys and successes, but mostly the troubles, that draw in the crowd and cause some very wet hankies.

Job well done to the actors, who absolutely convinced as they portrayed their love on screen. If there had been any hint of non-commitment from both Bana and McAdams, then the film would have absolutely failed. As such, their zeal for the roles should carry over to any person who has experienced love and lost it, and found it again, and lost it – which is actually most of us. Bravo also to Schwentke, his decision to fully focus almost 90% of the screen time to the couple was probably made in pragmatism, but it turned out quite well. People who have read the book might whine about how Henry’s friendship with Gomez, played ably by Ron Livingston, was not given enough development. But the kudos to the director and to the cast as well, firm in their commitment to highlight this most unusual of relationships, for making quite a tear-jerker of a movie.

Most men were probably sucked in by the title, thinking this had a bit of sci-fi in it. Make no mistake about it, this is mush in its purest state – but one the women will probably be able to convince the guys to watch with them. This reviewer, convinced of the competence of the acting and the filmmaking, did not regret being dragged into the cinema for this – I actually liked the film.

Surrogates starring Bruce Willis

First up is a new Bruce Willis film (yes, he’s still alive), and a sci-fi film, at that. The film is dubbed Surrogates. Set in a future environment where a technological breakthrough allows people to purchase cyborg copies of themselves – surrogates (hence the title) that allow them to have perfect little copies of themselves live out their outside lives for them. A film in the mold of sci-fi thrillers iRobot and Minority Report, the evergreen Bruce Willis plays an FBI detective tasked to investigate the murder of a student highly involved in the surrogate-making technology. The investigation leads Willis’ character through dilemmas regarding truth and trust, because really, when everybody around you isn’t “real” what do you do?

Surrogates also stars Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, Ving Rhames, and directed by Jonathan Mostow for Touchstone Pictures/Disney. The film hits the theaters September 25.

Ninja Assassin starring Rain

For your “whoah-what-the-heck-was-that?!?” visual effects fix, Ninja Assassin should do the job just fine. Rain, or Jeong Ji-Hoon if you really want to be accurate, stars in this martial arts flick that promises to be packed with action sequences and fight scenes that would bring any gamer or visual effects geek to gamer heaven. Rain is one of South Korea’s more successful imports, and has already starred with Ewan McGregor in Speed Racer. The plotline for this movie is pretty basic – with a title like that, you couldn’t really guess wrong. Rain stars as Raizo, an assassin (you probably guessed right), who breaks free from his uber-secret organization and exacts revenge on them for killing his best friend. Sounds familiar? Don’t worry, watching the trailer would make you disregard the title and plotline and make you want to watch this just for the awesome-ness of the fight scenes. And yes, never mind the parts of the trailer pointing to 300, the similarities end there. See for yourself.

Ninja Assassin is set to be released on November 25, under Warner Bros., and is directed by V for Vendetta director James McTeigue.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, new animated feature

Next up is an animated feature from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation sure to satisfy your, errr… palates (?) – Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. This is an adaptation from the well-loved children’s book of the same title written by Judi Barrett.

The book tells of the town of Chewandswallow (chew and swallow, get it?), where the weather comes 3 times a day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner – and is always in the form of food and beverages. The precipitation is juice and soup, the snow is mashed potatoes, and the wind brings hamburgers, and… you get the idea. However, floods and storms do come – creating food-induced problems of a different kind – the school getting smothered beneath a giant pancake, or a tomato sauce tornado, and giant meatballs crushing the town. Fun, eh?

The movie itself tries to tell the origin of Chewandswallow’s food problems (not the lack of it, unfortunately). Bill Hader (of Saturday Night Live fame) and Anna Faris voice the two lead characters – inventor Flint Lockwood, and weathergirl Sam Sparks. Also in the movie are James Caan who plays Flint’s father, and Mr. T (yes, the Mr. T) who plays a town cop. The movie is scheduled to bring home the bacon (sorry, couldn’t help it) on September 18, and is directed by Shrek 3 director Chris Miller.
